Wintery Nails - Part Two!

Now to part two of my beloved, wintery nail polishes. Here they are:

Left to right: L’Oreal Resist & Shine in 737, L’Oreal Resist & Shine in 734, Milani One Coat Glitter in Silver Dazzle, L’Oreal Resist & Shine in 733 and Priti in Cornflower.

You know what annoys me? When cosmetic and nail polish companies don’t give their products cool names. I mean, wouldn’t that be one of the coolest parts of the job? You get to call things whatever the fuck you please! COME ON, PEOPLE. In short, numbers are lame and so is L’Oreal.

Annoying numbers aside, I love these L’Oreal polishes. They’re smooth, glossy, pretty (these colours in particular make me swoon) and you only need one coat for perfect coverage and colour. I picked these up during a promotion at Priceline approximately a century ago (real time: about 2-3 years) and am so glad that I did. They always rear their beautiful heads during the wintertime and throwing them on my nails makes me supremely giddy. In fact, I took off Gold Old Buffy last night and am now wearing 733/the amazing, deep amethyst one. Check it:

God, yes. Sosososososo pretty.

The deep, metallic green and the deep, ruby red (sooo deep, you guys) are both amazing, as well. Sorry for the lack of swatches. I’ll feature them in my winter NOTD posts. Swear.

Priti’s Cornflower is another winter fave. It’s an intense, dark blue that turns into a vibrant sapphire in the sunlight. What’s not to like? I’ve got a review here if you want to check out some pics.

Seems like my photography skills were always shithouse. Good times.

As for the Milani glitter, it had to be done. Glitter is applicable for all seasons imo, but this one is especially awesome for winter because it’s a sexy gunmetal. FYI: this polish range is phenomenal and I don’t think my earlier review did it justice. They don’t require a basecoat, they give you complete nail coverage in two coats and they last forever. Everyone should go and buy at least one. Or four, like I did. Oh, P.S.: I’m now sponsored by Milani*. SWATCH IN THE FUTURE.

Additional mentions

Black. I have two – one by Australis and one by Sally Hansen. Both fucking beautiful. I love black nails. I really should’ve included a black in my top 10 as I always do black nails in the wintertime. TOO LATE NOW, FUCKWIT.

Australis’ Specktacular. Sparkle with easy removal. :DDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!

All my other glitters. Duh.

God, I need sparkle rehab.

That’s all! Hope you enjoyed.

Wintery Nails - Part One!

Ah, winter. I always think you’re going to be a blur of chic coats, beautiful, chunky scarves and the cuteness of slight windburn on the nose, but you’re always a bitter, old cow. Drippy noses and being cold to the point of nausea sucks potatoes.

That aside, you are good for one thing - making dark and moody nail polish look extra special. There's nothing like seeing a flash of navy nails when it's cold out. God, I love it. Far too much, really.

Anywaaay, let's move on to the bloody point of this post - my fave lot of wintery polishes. Here's part one:

Orly's Sea Gurl, Orly's Flagstone Rush, Orly's See Yah, Australis' Vampy and Essence's Gold Old Buffy

Flagstone Rush and See Yah are my most recent purchases and I got them because the shades were exactly what this season's palette is all about - deep, earthy tones. Yum. I actually bought See Yah from one of Priceline's el-cheapo $4.99 Orly buckets. Not only is the colour delicious, but it also lasts on the nails for about 700 days. Here's a dodge pic of it on my digits:

I bought Essence's Gold Old Buffy (shit name) because of Emma and her evil, convincing ways. It's a deep, olive green with fine golden shimmer. Stupidly pretty! Dark and moody, but with a nice twist. Check it out on my nails (it's actually what I'm wearing RIGHT NOW) below. P.S. My pic makes the shimmer really noticable, but in reality, this shade is really dark. Looks almost black actually. However, the shimmer is pretty clear in sunlight.

Orly's Sea Gurl and Australis' Vampy were both gifted by PR and I adore them both. Sea Gurl is a murky, swamp-coloured shimmer (promise it's nice) and Vampy is a maroon creme with plenty of maroon shimmer. No swatches for now but you'll no doubt get some winter NOTDs featuring these in the near future.

Like any of these? Are you a dark nail fiend like I am?

PART TWO COMING SOON. WOOT.

Glossybox. Again.

Another round of Glossybox for you today. Again, I was sent this for review purposes. Here’s what we’re dealing with this time round:

Powerband thingymajig
This is on par with the bogan temporary tattoos in the last box I received. Meaning? Bad. Very, very bad.
This was the only nod to this month’s theme (leading a healthy/active lifestyle) and a lame one at that. I wouldn’t wear this and I don’t know anyone who would wear this (THANK GOD). Lame, useless and a total waste of money. Already in the garbage.

Absolutely Gorgeous Essentials Macadamia Face Cream (normal to dry skin)
I like this. This brand seems kinda homemadeish to me (nothing wrong with that) and is organic, paraben + sulfate free etc. Good stuff. I’ll definitely try this stuff out as the ingredients seem nice and natural.

proactiv Cleansing Bar
Uh, no. I don’t want to try proactiv. Ever. This stuff is very limited in terms of who can use it and who wants to use it so it's kinda blergh to me.

KMS Free Shape
I wish I was a hair girl, but I’m not. I don’t have the patience or the skill to get my hair looking good. That being said, this is a decent get. Good brand and interesting product (heat protectant and styling spray in one). I would imagine lots of girls would be keen to try this, but since I cbf with hair stuff and it doesn’t really interest me too much, I’ll probably just give it a shot and then forget about it.

Avene Gentle Toner
Another thing I was keen on, but then I kept reading. It’s meant for dry and very dry/sensitive skin. Bah! Like the proactiv, this product is limited when it comes to who can use it. Useless for me so I’ll give it to a mate. Boourns.

De Coy Panda Pen
I vaguely remember seeing some reviews on this when De Coy was sending these out to bloggers. I’ve never been compelled to buy this or similar products, but it’s a fairly interesting score. I’ll definitely try it out. Note: When taking a closer look at the box, I noticed that the sticker seal looked dodgy on one end. Like it had been opened and then closed again. On opening the box, my suspicion was confirmed. There was barely any ‘stick’ to the sticker seal. When I slid out the pen, there was no seal on the tip of the pen like there should have been and the cloth was dirty. Used, or at least tampered with. WHAT THE FUCK. I’ve posted some pics down below. Sorry for the blur in a couple. What you see in the pic is exactly what I found when I opened the box. Binned. Oh and apparently, it seems that you should avoid getting this stuff in your eye. An eye makeup remover. Righteo…

+

$10 voucher for Absolutely Gorgeous (maybe!) and $10 voucher (min. spend of $50) for zanui.com.au (GTFO).

So, there it is. Contents-wise, this box is definitely not as bad as the last one I got, but I’m still not sold. Plus, the Panda Pen was USED/FUCKED UP. Here’s hoping my experience was a freak-occurrence.

Some other thoughts:

1. These boxes would probably be better off replacing skincare with makeup. Skincare is just too limiting while cosmetics are far less so.

2. I don’t think these sample box peeps pay attention to the forms that girls fill out when they sub. I know of at least a few other bloggers who specified that they had sensitive skin and then proceeded to get proactiv in their box. No. I realise it would be incredibly difficult to check each individual form when sending out each individual box, but then wtf is the point of the form in the first place? Get rid of it. It's misleading.

3. DON’T PUT USED SHIT IN THE BOXES. I well and truly hope that this was a one-off. Pay close attention to the products and their seals, girls.

Christ.

Like showering with a butter menthol...

Odd title, yes, but stay with me. I’m talking about this:

I was sent this awesomeness by the lovely Sabine over at Echolife when I randomly tweeted about being down to my last shower gel (traumatic stuff). It ended up getting to me just in time for my birthday so it was a pretty magical moment.

Anyway.

This shower gel is the shit. Why? Because it combines my love need for having both a sweet shower gel and a POW! shower gel in my bathroom. FYI: By POW!, I mean refreshing, punchy, invigorating etc. I don’t know about you, but if I don’t have both options in my shower, I shut down. I need both in order to satisfy specific moods, energy levels etc. Long, shitty day? Reach for the sweet. Sleepy and ugh? Reach for the POW!.

Now let’s get back to the weird title of this post. Weleda calls this a ‘Citrus Creamy Body Wash’ and it so is, but specifically, it reminds me of a butter menthol. So weird but so good. It combines the punch of citrusy things, with the comfort of creamy stuff. Perfect. Pretty sure this'll be the shit for torturous early morning showers in the wintertime. Totally looking forward to those!

If you’re down for having a butter menthol shower, click here to check it out.

I’m new to Weleda, but I feel that we’re going to get real acquainted real soon. Especially considering they have a whole bunch of almond-based things. GOD YES.

Any Weleda fans out there?

Delipscious!

I spotted this tinted balm while in The Body Shop last year and was immediately drawn to its shiny goodness. You guys know what I'm like when it comes to shiny stuff, yeah? Yeah.

Once my magpie-like fascination with the packaging wore off, I swatched it. Hello! I liked it. A lot. It was a light, blue-based pink that wasn't too pornstar and probably wouldn't make me look like a whore. Fantastic.

Then I noticed that it was $20. Well, fuck. $20 isn't too bad a price, but for someone who hardly ever slaps anything more than a clear balm on their lips, it was a bit too much. I left it.

Since this incident happened around Christmastime, I managed to send over a quick email so S. Claus and told him to chuck it in my giftbag. He agreed and here we are.

Here are some swatches for you (taken with my phone). Squint real hard and maybe you'll be able to make it out.

And now some pics of me wearing it. Prepare for the most sensual photos you're ever bound to see in your entire life. Oh, and ignore my messed hair. Actually don't. It totally adds to the 'I JUST HAD WILD SEX' look. P.S. I'm completely taking the piss.

 And my favourite:

Okay, so this balm is quite the little gem. The packaging rocks, it feels smooth and creamy, gives good colour/tint and lasts a decent length of time on the lips. It does smell a tad odd, with its delightful mix of zinc (remember when your mum used to slather that shit on your nose at the beach?) and watermelon, but it's doable. The only downside for me is the pricetag.

There are other shades in the range (not many, from memory) so they're def worth checking out. This one looks good with pretty much any eye look so it's a goodie. I think it'd look sensational on someone with a tan.

Byeeeeeeeeee!

Bad photos of new things

Heylo!

I haven't blogged in a decade (I blame life) and I'm stumped for ideas so here's some new stuff I bought recently. A group photo was impossible to do for some reason, so I've got a bunch of great pics for you to look at. I honestly have no idea why I'm so bad at taking photos of inanimate objects.

Nostalgic, Kendall on the Katwalk (GTFO) and Euphoria

Surprise, surprise! More glitter polishes. You can see Nostalgic in action in the previous post. I love them all.

Body Shop Eye and Cheek Palette in 02 (creative name, guys!)

This looks like balls in my pic, but it's actually really pretty IRL. Plus, the pigmentation is awesome. Scored it for $10 at the Body Shop outlety thingy.

Revlon New Complexion Oil-Control Makeup/the best photo by far

I love my Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover, but I fear that it's too rich for my skin. Been using this for a little while and while it's a fine foundation, it's just not suited for me. The coverage is medium at best and it leaves my skin looking verrrry dewy. Not necessarily a bad thing, but dewy don't work for me. Plus, I kinda expected an oil-control foundation to be matte. I do find that my skin doesn't get as oily when I wear this but yeah, nah. I think if you have pretty decent skin and enjoy a dewy face, you'll like it. P.S. This stuff is very...watery. It's a weird texture tbh. Best applied with a sponge or fingers. Using a brush will result in annoyance.

Great idea to hold them in front of the window, Ange.

Buys from The Face Shop. I was expecting the place to be awesome, but I was very underwhelmed. Still, something had to be bought. The Sebum Control mask was actually quite nice, and I felt like it made my skin look and feel fresh.

Haaaai guyz

A random addition. Bought this necklace from Quick Brown Fox in Little Collins Street. It's kitschy and I appreciate that. It's made of beads and metal. Plus, it's pink. Good stuff. Never gotten so many compliments on my bling before.
