Things That Sucked (imo)

+ Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector

It always sucks when you when you fork out the moolah on something shithouse. Here’s my list:

L’Oreal Studio Secrets Anti-Shine Mattifying Primer - It doesn’t keep shine at bay and it doesn’t keep my makeup on for longer. Fail. I believe this is just silicone in a bottle so it feels all soft and lush when you slap it on but it doesn’t do anything more. It’s not so bad that I’m going to chuck it but I won’t be re-purchasing.

Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector (finished this ages ago so the bottle is gone) - I expected miracles from this product (and I don’t usually buy into the hype) because the marketing made it seem like it was the product for pigmentation. It was pretty exxy ($89) and all it did was make my skin really soft. That’s great and all but I can get the same effect from something a hell of a lot cheaper. I was told that I’d probably need to buy a second or third bottle to see good results but I’m not willing to buy more of something that may or may not work. P.S. It also left an oily film on my face.

Savvy eyeliner in Ivory – Look, I wasn't expecting this $2 liner to be superduper awesome but it was really quite crappy. I bought this because I wanted to see if white liner made me eyes look brighter/better. It didn’t and this pencil sucked. The pigmentation is pants and it tugged on my waterline. Into the bin, you go.

Benefit’s the POREfessional - I bought this and ranted in my haul post about how awesome it was and how very excited I was that I bought it. *sigh* Look, it does work but it wears off far too quickly. There’s a reason why the counter chick told me that I should chuck it in my bag 'in case' I needed a re-apply during the day. This isn't a massive disappointment because it does work but I'm not a fan because it doesn’t last and needs to be re-applied and I truly cbf. For those of you who don't mind a few re-applies during the day, it may be worth a shot.

Thoughts?

  3. I'm sad to hear about the Benefit's primer. You know, you spend the money on good products EXPECTING them to be good, and they're not. This bugs me too. However, anyone that says you should re-apply primer during the day (if you need to) should be kicked in the knees. Primer should last all day and if it doesn't, it shouldn't called a primer.

  4. Great post! It is notoriously difficult to find a decent cheap white eyeliner pencil, I think you're definitely better off paying a bit more to get a good one, MAC do a good one. Great to see what you think, I had been considering getting that L'Oreal primer.

  5. Ill make sure to keep away from these. I hate it when products end up sucking!

  6. Ugh. I HATE when that happens.
I always buy into the hype, but so far I have been pretty surprised [happily]

But, I have gone the opposite, bought things that were cheap thinking they would be crap but they were amazeballs.

  7. Yeh I've bought a few crappy things in my time, now I try hard not to buy into smancy pricey skincare stuff that promises miracles because they tend to be the most disappointing.

  8. Oh the L'Oreal primer is sucky - that one in the particular broke me out. Try a flesh tone eyeliner pencil, it'll look less stark! :)

  9. Thanks Dinah!

    @ Delyteful - Stupid Clinique! :/ P.S. I'm 100% sure I was following you but apparently I wasn't? I have no idea what's going on! I'll check out your post! x

@ Christina - hahahaha I know, right!? Thing is, they've called it a 'pro balm' and not a primer. Still - boo!

@ Megan - Thank you! I probably won't fork out for a MAC one because it made me look odd. hahah Hope the primer works for you if you decide to try it out!

    @ Yami - haha Isn't it the worst? ;)

@ Lexi - Yeah, sometimes the cheap stuff is the best! I've got some cheapies that have blown my mind!

@ Jade - Soo true! I really try not to fall for the b.s. but sometimes things slip through. :P

@ Yolanda - Eek! I've heard that looks better! I might give it a shot. Thanks! x

  10. Ohh I really like the feeling of Porefessional when I try it in store, but it's good to hear the lasting power isn't ace. Might still check it out, but maybe not

  11. Oh gawd Im a sucker for the hype..... Interesting re Clinique, I think some standard Vit C will probably do the same thing for seriously less, great results on @Dempeaux's blog.

I'm still on the fence about primers but bought the FOA one after all the good reviews and used it in the morning as was heading straight out from the office last week. I was really happy- I barely needed to touch up!

  12. @ Emma - Yeah, it feels really lush and does work but not for long.

@ Julie - Hmm I'll go have a look at her blog! Thanks! As for the FOA primer, I've heard wonderful things so once I finish my current stuff, I think that'll be my next purchase.

  25. I was wondering if you ever thought of changing the layout of your site?
Its very well written; I love what youve got to say.

But maybe you could a little more in the way of content so people could connect with it better.
Youve got an awful lot of text for only
having 1 or 2 images. Maybe you could space it out better?
